Feb 16, 2012 · Hey everyone, Recently my BCM went dead, so i reluctantly bought a new one online. (the dealership wanted 300+ for a new one, Autozone,Napa, and Advanced Discount didnt sell them) so i found a new AC Delco BCM for $150. but when i spoke to the dealership and gave them my VIN they told me i would have to pay 300 then install it myself and then bring the car to the dealership to program it with ... Whats the difference between this and a crank relearn? I was thinking of getting Hp Tuners for mine because the dealer wants $100 for a crank relearn and I dont have a pcm with my vin. By the time I pay to have it done Im 3/4 of the way to HP Tuners. Anytime you replace that you need to do a Crankshaft Sensor Variation Relearn (that's even what GM calls it). Most professional scan tools can perform this. This only takes about 15 minutes in and out if that's all you want and if you call around you can probably find someone to do it for less than $100. Oct 22, 2012 · Joel, thanks for checking on me.. i really appreciate that. Unfortunately until now i haven't been able to perform the crank relearn procedure by myself because the usb-obd2 serial cable using an ELM 327 protocol is not compatible with the software i wanted to use to perform it( GM EFI LIVE and HP TUNERS). I have replaced both and never had to do a case relearn. You would get a p0315 if you needed a case relearn. BTW HPTuners can do a CR. I suspect you have a defected sensor. Only use oem parts. Otherwise it thinks that there is a missfire. You will need EFILive, HP Tuners, or a GM TechII to do the crank relearn yourself, or a dealer will do it for you. Most GM PCMs require a "CASE" relearn so the PCM can learn the relative positions between the cranshaft and camshaft sensors. If you don't do the CASE relearn, the Check Engine Light will come on and there will be a code P1336. The core program requires a CASE relearn and security relearn also. Core Return Amounts PCM/TCMs MUST be in good shape aesthetically and not have any damage or we will not accept them for core returns. 1996 PCM’s are not eligible for core return. popular LS v8s have the intake air temp sensor in the MAFS itself, so swap cars, we like to remove the Evap solenoid behind the throttle, open it up a little with a grinder or drill, and then RTV and hammer in the sensor with a dead blow, works awesome, right in the intake stream without being an obstruction. If you replace the ECM, you do have to do a crank relearn (HPTuners or Tech2). I posted (as well as another member here) the steps to do this. Also, you probably saw it, but I did not make it clear that I posted a link to flashmaster for those part numbers. sorry lol Let me check your first post again, but it is possible your tune file is corrupt. Important information regarding Misfire Detection and the Crankshaft Variation Relearn Procedure (aka: CASE Learn) in GM OBD2 systems: Most 1997-newer GM OBD2 computer systems require a CASE LEARN to be done if the PCM, engine, crank sensor, crank balancer, or any related parts are replaced or changed. The crank position relearn is needed sometimes. usually it comes up as a crank/cam correlation code, but not always. Really, any time the engine is torn down and rebuilt it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to do the relearn. Gen I PCM = non OBD II inside the car and the size of a football field. Gen I Crank Sensors. The TPMS Forum is a discussion forum for Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems The crankshaft position sensor relearn needs to be done if the crankshaft position sensor or timing cover, are moved, removed, replaced, or disturbed in any way. The reason the relearn is necessary is to "sync" the sensor with the crankshaft. The PCM uses the data for ignition timing, cylinder misfire identification, fuel injector timing, etc etc.

MAP/MAF - Throttle Position Correlation. What does that mean? This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code. It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles (1996-newer), although specific repair steps may be slightly different depending on the model.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. 6. Start the engine. Okay, finally got around to looking at this again. Reflashed PCM again, and got Tech2Win running. Ran through the steps and did another crank relearn with the tech2. Everything shows up good. Never throw any codes, but I was able to log some misfire counts. They, of course, are during the issue I have. It doesn't always pick them up.
May 04, 2012 · To address this, I guess you can do a crank relearn as others have suggested. But if you're really interested in both having a strong diagnostic tool, as well as being able to fix this yourself (programming VINs into PCMs, running crank relearns, or transmission shift adapt resets, or other bi-directional communication procedures), I'd ...
